When I first designed Henry I always pictured him in a real garden but as the idea developed I felt I needed to ‘create’ a world for Henry and his friends to live in.
I wanted a world that was colourful and eye-catching but at the same time believable. One of the most important things was making sure that the puppets looked natural when placed into the world and not out of place.
To help me with this I called upon the talents of illustrator Chris Cox.
I gave Chris a simple brief – Simple backgrounds with thick outlines and coloured using crayon.
This is the first coloured picture Chris sent through. I was delighted with the result. We have done a few tests and the puppets fit really well into the environment.
Chris is currently hard at work on the backgrounds for the first film. I can’t wait to composite the whole lot together and get a real feel for how the finished films will look.
