Here are some stills from the David and Goliath animation from episode 5 of the first Henry Hand Puppet DVD. When designing the animation we wanted it to be very different from the puppet sections. We designed a very flat, simple style which should appeal to young children. All the animations will be styled in this way, using similar character design and backgrounds.
Trying to create Goliath was very difficult when designing him for very young children. He needed to be big, strong and mean but not in a scary way. Simple things like a fluffy beard soften him enough to give him that mean but cuddly look. King Saul is based on Elvis (Director Jon is a big fan) and has a cool laid back feel while David is small but has a great inner strength.
Please watch out for a new video soon when we show you how we go about animating these little films.
